Plastics, Metals, and PCB's, oh my!
Prototyping new ideas (or is that new ideas for prototyping?)
In the last few months, I've been learning more about machining technologies for making parts out of plastics and metals. I am currently learning the use of metal lathes and milling machines.
I have also purchased a MaxNC CNC system to extend my capabilities to more complicated parts, custom panel cutouts, logo/text engraving, and mechanically etched PCB's.
Hopefully, by this time next year, I'll also have plastic injection and metal casting (foundry) experience as well. Ideally, I will be able to make my own plastic injection machine and injection molds with the metal working and CNC skills.
The eventual goal, of course, is to perform a "full circle" design and production of electronic devices under one roof. (Well, actually two, because I do software and electronics in the house, and the rest in the garage.)
